SOFT SHOULDER

Where:
On any road, especially in rural areas, construction zones, or roads with gravel or unpaved shoulders.

Purpose:
To warn drivers that the road shoulder may be made of loose, unstable, or soft material that cannot safely support a vehicle.
Driving or stopping on the shoulder could cause loss of control, vehicle damage, or the risk of skidding or tipping.
The sign alerts drivers to stay on the paved or properly constructed part of the road.

Action:
Do not drive, park, or stop on the shoulder unless absolutely necessary.
If it is unavoidable, such as to avoid a collision or emergency, slow down as much as possible before moving onto the shoulder.
Be aware that your vehicle may pull in the direction of the soft shoulder when you move off the main road.
Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel and carefully correct the vehicles alignment when returning to the main road.
Keep a safe distance from other vehicles, as sudden movements may occur when entering or exiting the soft shoulder.
